One of the best ways to simplify your life is to just possess less! As with most things, this is something that can be easier said than done for many people and I gotta admit that I am one of those people. But once you get on a roll and then experience how wonderful it feels to have less, you’ll be happily surprised with the process and itch to continue! I always feel good after going through things and passing them along, knowing that these items will serve others.  The result is that my life will be more positive, and that positivity will inspire others.

Here are some of the best ways to streamline your goods:

Donate
This is my favorite way to simplify life because it’s so true that one person’s trash (though it’s really not trash!) is another man’s treasure. With a little online research and asking around, you can easily find many donation locations like Goodwill, charities, foundations, churches, schools, hospitals, and donation shops…if you seek, you shall find!

Clothing and Accessories Swap
I haven’t done this but would absolutely love to sometime. Contact your friends and ask them to bring any gently used items they no longer want or are tired of. Items may include clothes, jewelry, accessories, home décor, kitchen tools, and maybe even small furniture. Chances are they’ll have something that would be perfect for you and vice versa! The fact that it’s free is pretty great too!

Consignment
For items of higher value, consignment can be a good option so that you get a little money back on your investment. There are both brick-and-mortar and online consignment shops that will take just about anything, which results in a little cash in your pocket and a more organized home!

Yard Sale
This is an easy and great method to get rid of everything but the kitchen sink….you don’t even have to leave the house! Yard sales bring the community to you and give you the ability to wheel and deal if needed. To draw a bigger crowd, team up with a neighbor or friend.

Repurpose and Craft
This is a good approach to hold onto items you don’t want to pass on but want to get more use from. You can make old shirts into rags, repurpose old furniture, turn sheets into decorative pillow cases…honestly this is just the tip of the iceberg. By looking online, you can find endless ways to make your current stuff work for you!  This article has some incredible ideas of how to reuse things, how to dispose of them properly, and how to pass them along. It really blows me away how ingenious some people are!

The hardest part of simplifying is getting started, but I promise that once you start, you’ll feel great. Pick one drawer and get your clean-out on!

Laissez les bons temps roulez et bonne santé,
